You can not choose your past but you can Choose your story.
"You can't change your past, but you can reframe it.
Find the lesson in it. Find the opportunity in it. Pull the teachable moment out of it and share it with others.
You can't choose your history, but you can choose the story you tell about it."
— James Clear
This resonates deeply.
Again and again, I see people reaching a pivotal moment in their lives or careers—where what got them here simply won’t get them there. It’s at this crossroads that you often know what needs to change, what you need to work on, overcome, or integrate. But knowing is one thing; doing it is another. And it can be tough.
The stories we tell ourselves matter. They shape our reality. They define what we believe is possible. And these stories can change.
In coaching*, I create a safe space for my clients to rewrite their narratives—to craft a new story that aligns with who they truly want to be.
Maybe you’ve learned that love and acceptance are tied to perfection. As a leader, this can make letting go of control nearly impossible. Delegating becomes a challenge, and the weight of perfectionism eventually becomes overwhelming.
Or perhaps you’ve internalized the idea that strength means facing challenges alone. You’ve become the leader who takes on everything, never showing vulnerability. But this raises the question: Are you leading through inspiration and trust, or merely exercising power and authority?
And for those who’ve been conditioned to avoid conflict, harmony at any cost becomes a default. This might make you an agreeable colleague or a non-confrontational leader, but it can also lead to missed opportunities for growth, innovation, and real progress. Sooner or later, your project or team may hit a wall that you can’t avoid.
If you find yourself at this point—where what got you here won’t get you there—coaching can offer the space you need. It’s a place to gain new perspectives, break free from limiting narratives, and explore the story that will truly support your growth and success.
